Karmen Kastelic Pipan will present her debut novel, Blaganica, which she will discuss with Diana Pungeršič. The novel takes readers to the end of the 19th century, to the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and guides them through the rise of fascism, all set in the area between Rodik and Trieste. This imaginative story is based on real historical facts and takes us through the fates of several generations. You are cordially invited!
We will talk to Eva Ostrokljun, author of the book Najine erotične črtice (Our Erotic Stories), which she courageously wrote on behalf of all those whose sex lives have been drastically changed by the arrival of a child. For the worse, of course. In conversation with Alenka Penjak, she will talk about how she and her husband rediscovered each other as partners and ultimately laughed about it all.
Dejan Krajlah, author of several crime novels published under the pseudonym L. R. Giuliani and available at the Koper Library, will present his new, sixth crime novel, Roža z Donave (The Rose from the Danube), at the City Reading Room. The author will be interviewed by Alenka Penjak.

The book Vseeno. Vse je eno is a collection of stories about Earthlings living on two connected planets. The central story is about a group of friends who met at the end of the 19th century while studying in Gorizia. Their diversity enriched them, even though there was growing tension between the nations. Later, they founded a joint village under Kolovrat, in the Tolmin area, where they eventually connected with the local Old Believers. The book, which is a unique tribute to the natural beauty of Slovenia, shows the power of conscious choices made by individuals and communities and offers an alternative for a kinder world – inspiration and help can be found even in a distant corner of the galaxy, but above all, we can find them in our hearts. It is also enriched with exceptional thoughts, quotes, and descriptions of the lives of the Old Believers from the Posočje and Idrija-Cerkno regions.

The scientific monograph Between Venice and Vienna offers an in-depth analysis of how cultural heritage in Istria and the border Adriatic region from the Venetian era to Slovenian independence was used as a tool of political influence, national prestige, and ideological identity formation.
With historical and archaeological precision, the authors trace the movements of works of art, archives, and other cultural assets between countries and regimes—from the seizure of valuable objects during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Fascist Italy, through the complex issue of restitution after World War II, to the period of independent Slovenia. Special emphasis is placed on the role of museums, church institutions, and archives, as well as local efforts to preserve heritage.

We invite you to the presentation of the bilingual (Slovenian-English) book
“Mirrors of the Sea: when science and art meet”,
co-published by IRIU d. o. o. and KUD AAC Zrakogled.
The presentation will take place on 11 June 2025, at 18:00, in the City Reading Room of the Koper Library (Trg Brolo 1).
The book marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO in Slovenia
and is dedicated to showing the collaboration between marine researchers and artists.
The presentation will be moderated by Martina Gamboz. She will discuss the integration of science and art and whether the collaboration between researchers and artists can contribute to a more peaceful coexistence between man and nature with marine researcher Patricija Mozetič and illustrator Peter Škerl.
