Create your own unique, sustainable holiday decorations with designer Tina Gorjanc at the Critical Animal studio in Koper

Want to decorate your home with something truly special this year? At this workshop, you will create a completely personalized holiday decoration from environmentally friendly, recycled leather. You will learn material processing techniques and reuse processes, and step by step you will create a product that is both sustainable and aesthetically pleasing.

Workshop schedule

Introduction:

Presentation of sustainable leather, its origin, and possibilities for creative reuse.

Introduction to recycling and basic processing techniques: cutting, punching, dyeing, assembling.

Overview of the materials, machines, and hand tools that will be available.

Practical part:
Each participant receives an individual kit: pre-cut leather, metal hooks, cutting templates, and basic tools.
Two types of decorations are available.

Option: Bow

Presentation of the use of tools and components of the prepared kits

Guided design of the decoration

Cutting and punching leather according to cutting templates

Assembling the decoration

Personalization (colors, engravings, metal accessories, or decorative “tattoos”)

Option: Cloud

Presentation of the use of tools and components of prepared kits

Demonstration and trial cutting of individual modules

All materials and equipment are included in the price.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The architecture of softness is a mixture of physical and dance interests that converge in the regular dance practice of the Divje ptice collective. In this workshop, we will use dance to rediscover the soft, flexible body that can easily change its orientation in space and move through it. We will explore the principles of efficient use and transfer of kinetic energy in movement, thereby developing a flexible, responsive body. By paying attention to the internal architecture of the body, we will create a sensory foundation that we will later transfer to the context of a wider space that becomes spherical. In this way, we will enter into more complex movement elements and dynamic dance material.

WHO IS IT FOR?
The workshop is intended for anyone who wants to dance, is interested in in-depth exploration of movement, physical approach, contact with the body, developing body awareness, and expanding their own movement expression.

Workshop fee: €25 (VAT included). Upon registration, you will receive a proforma invoice, which must be paid before the start of the workshop. We will refund the fee only upon presentation of a medical certificate.

Join us for a free Watoji Japanese book-binding workshop!
📖 In this workshop we will be making modular sketchbooks using the Japanese bookbinding technique.
🪡 The sketchbook can also be disassembled and the inner leaves and covers can be added or taken away as needed. We will use mainly waste coloured and monochrome paper and cardboard of various thicknesses and other scraps of graphic sketchbook sheets. The workshop is suitable for anyone who likes to write and draw by hand or who enjoys handicrafts and learning about the creativity and practicalities of other cultures. Materials and tools will be provided!
Places are limited, so registration is essential. The Koper Youth Centre’s programme is primarily aimed at empowering young people and strengthening their competences, so we will give priority to applications from people aged between 15 and 30. Of course, if the number of applications is optimal, everyone – young and young at heart – will be accepted.

WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS
Crochet, Part 2: Loop for loop – building on skills

Sunday, 8 June 2025, from 10:00 to 12:00

In our ethnology collection, we will build on the basics of crochet and focus on simple patterns and precision in working with loops. By learning new techniques, we will create interesting patterns that will enrich our crocheted products. We will consolidate our skills, improve our technique and continue to venture into the world of creating with threads.

We look forward to your company and to a pleasant morning of creating and reminiscing!

WHEN and WHERE: the workshop takes place from 10 am to 12 noon.
We will meet at the Ethnological Collection of the Regional Museum Koper, Gramscijev trg 4/5, Koper.

The number of places is limited, so you have to register in advance.

All activities are free of charge and visitors will enjoy a varied programme of creative, physical and fun activities. At the stalls you will be able to get useful information on healthy living, take free measurements and get energised.

For children, the day will be extra special – the cheerful Pippi Longstocking will take them on a treasure hunt adventure through a number of creative stations where there will be plenty of games, laughter and movement.

Kids and dads will have the chance to try their hand at a short, fun-filled run along Harbour Street – each participant will receive a T-shirt, a medal and lots of excitement!
