The international festival of desserts and sweets called “Sweet Istria” (Sladka Istra) is the largest event of its kind in Slovenia, taking place at the end of September in Koper.

On nicely decorated stands at various locations around the town, buckling under the weight of delicious sweets, visitors can taste numerous desserts made according to recipes of Istrian housewives, or opt for modern masterpieces created by top pastry chefs from Slovenia and abroad.

Sweet Istria provides an excellent opportunity to taste and purchase sweet wines, beers, and other sweet drinks, honey products and other sweet products, and produce from Slovenian farms.

Visitors can exchange tasting coins and coupons for sweet desserts and also purchase large quantities to take home with them.

In addition to a wide range of products on offer, Sweet Istria also boasts a rich programme of confectionery workshops and cooking shows, guided tastings and lectures, numerous cultural events and events for children, and countless other activities.

Professionally speaking, the most important part of the festival is the three “sweet” contests: the competition for the most original Istrian dessert, the best muscat of the “Sweet Istria” festival, and the best cake of the festival.

“Sweet Istria” is therefore an excellent opportunity to dive into the world of sweets just one step from the sea.
