Altroke Sladka Istra, the sweetest event of the year, returns to Koper in early September!

On Saturday, 5 September 2026, Koper will once again be filled with the aromas of sweet treats and a variety of flavours. We will round off the summer season in the sweetest way possible with Altroke Sladka Istra, taking place by the sea, along Pristaniška Street, and bringing together good company, sweet indulgence and unforgettable experiences.

This year, the event returns to its essence – the world of sweets, where exceptional desserts, traditional recipes and modern pastry creations take centre stage. In one place, visitors will discover a selection of exhibitors offering delicious cakes, pastries, chocolate products, ice cream, honey treats, jams and other sweet specialities.

On the first Saturday of September, Koper will be filled with the aromas of freshly baked desserts, chocolate, honey, jams, local specialities and creative pastry creations. Let it be a sweet farewell to summer and a wonderful start to the new school year – a day when children can step into the first days of September with a smile, while adults can treat themselves to something sweet in a pleasant seaside atmosphere.

This year, Altroke Sladka Istra will once again be a place where visitors can discover exclusively sweet stories, products and experiences.

You can taste the festival flavour already today

You don't have to wait until 5 September for the sweetest day of the year! The official Altroke Sladka Istra festival cake is already available at Kavarna Triglav, where you can discover why it has become a true representative of the sweet side of Istria.

Ice cream lovers can also get a taste of the festival atmosphere before the event. At Sladoledarna, you can try the Altroke Sladka Istra ice cream flavour – a sweet tribute to the flavours of Istria, perfect for cooling down before the big festival day.

Sladka Istra is not just a festival of flavours – it is also a day for socialising, creating, exploring and discovering new experiences.

Alongside the sweet treats on Pristaniška Street, a varied programme for all generations awaits you.

SWEET CREATIVITY AND CIRCUS ADVENTURES

At Hlavaty Park, the youngest visitors will enjoy a special programme filled with circus, creativity and playfulness. From 9 AM to 6 PM, a true sweet adventure awaits them.

Children will be able to take part in creative workshops, explore scents and textures in a sensory laboratory, decorate biscuits, enjoy face painting and take photos at the photo booth.

Adding an extra dose of fun will be street circus performances, a retro funfair with wooden games and symbolic prizes, and an exciting circus caravan on wheels.

Get ready for a day full of creativity, play, sweet experiences and circus magic!

Books, Salt and Koper

The 12th International Used Book Fair “Books, Salt and Koper” will take place at Prešeren Square, organised by Libris Bookshop in cooperation with Zavod Koper Otok.

Antiquarian booksellers and private collectors from Slovenia and abroad will offer a diverse selection of old and used books, comics, prints and postcards. The fair is a great opportunity for book lovers, collectors and curious visitors who enjoy discovering rare and unique literary treasures.

Large-Format Community Illustration

10 AM–1 PM

Creators of all generations will join forces to create a large community illustration on fabric.

Mentor Ulla Žibert will prepare the original artistic concept, while visitors will bring it to life and add their own contributions through collaborative painting. Everyone will be able to leave their creative mark, while the finished piece will become a colourful story about connection, creativity and the power of creating together.

No previous artistic experience is required – all you need is enthusiasm and a desire to create!

Sweet Creativity with DPM Koper

10 AM–1 PM

The youngest visitors will be able to let their imagination and creativity run wild together with Društvo prijateljev mladine Koper.

During the creative workshop, cute fruit-inspired motifs will be created from paper, with plenty of colour, fun and creative ideas along the way. The workshop is intended for children and families who would like to add a little creativity to their sweet festival morning.

Meet Emilija Pavlič

Emilija Pavlič, a renowned cookbook author and long-time promoter of healthy, seasonal and home-cooked food, will invite visitors into the world of traditional Istrian cuisine.

At her stand, visitors will be able to chat about the importance of local and home-grown ingredients, culinary traditions and passing knowledge from one generation to the next. The youngest visitors will be especially interested in trying their hand at grinding walnuts – once an everyday household task, but today an almost forgotten skill.

When the sweet part of Altroke Sladka Istra comes to an end, the fun doesn't stop!

After 6 PM, the savoury part of the festival awaits you at the Fishermen's Village, where you can continue your day with savoury Istrian specialities, good company and a relaxed evening atmosphere. The evening will also feature a concert.

If sport is more your thing, head to the Sport Climbing World Cup, where the world's best climbers will compete in the evening. This way, visitors can experience the perfect day in Koper – from sweet treats by the sea to a world-class sporting spectacle.
