Café Evropa: Youth and disinformation, discussion with guests
Mar 21, 2024
15:00 - 17:00
Elections, environmental issues, housing, health, economy, sport, culture. Today, there is hardly an area that is not affected by the rise of fake news and disinformation. In a world in which we, as individuals, have to make an effort to access quality information, the media have a distinctly important role to play. They represent the core of quality information, the bastion of democracy, so to speak. At a time when the tradition of watching the news every night or reading the newspaper every morning is disappearing from our homes, when information is at our fingertips every moment on our mobile devices, when there is so much information that we are becoming overwhelmed by it and so many sources of information that we cannot keep up to date with them, we are asking ourselves: what kind of a media landscape, and consequently a world, will we be leaving for our successors? To the young people who are the bright future of our society?
Join them at the next Café Evropa, organised this time in cooperation with the University of Primorska. You will discuss how the media (co-)shape public opinion, especially in the light of the increasing rise of fake news and disinformation. How do the latter influence us and our decisions? How to empower ourselves with the knowledge to identify fake news and disinformation in the future?
Participants:
- Žana Erznožnik (Razkrinkavanje, Oštro),
- Nataša Briški, strategic communications and social media management consultant, and
- Dr Tomaž Grušovnik from the University of Primorskas Faculty of Education.
In the first part of the event, you will raise important questions about the media and disinformation in a relaxed discussion, and in the second part of the event, you will analyse fake news using a few pre-selected examples.
Book your free place here.
Registration will be open until places are filled.
Welcome to the next Café Evropa!
