27 January 2023 marks 78 years since the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. There is no place in the world more marked by death. During the time Auschwitz was in operation (1940-1945), around 1.1 million people were killed here, including 1 million Jews.

The Koper Regional Museum and the Centre for Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor cordially invite you to visit the documentary exhibition “Here Death Tired Itself to Death…”: Slovenian Victims of Auschwitz at the Koper Regional Museum, 19 Kidričeva Street.

The exhibition tells the story of some 2,300 people from Slovenia who were taken to this camp. Most of them were Slovenes, but there were also around 350 Jews, at least 78 Roma and at least one Jehovah’s Witness. For around 1,300 of them, Auschwitz was the place of death.

The exhibition, organised by the Maribor Synagogue, was first shown on 23 January 2020 as part of the Šoa project and will be on display at the Koper Regional Museum until June 2023.
