Lecture: Tourism in the Geopolitically Divided World of Southwest Asia
Mar 21, 2024
18:00
The Department of Geography of the University of Primorska, Faculty of Humanities, invites you to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Anton Gosar entitled "Tourism in the Geopolitically Divided World of Southwest Asia", which will take place at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Humanities, lecture room Maestral 3, Tito Square 5, Koper, on Thursday, the 21st of March 2024, at 18:00, in the context of the Geography Evening.
The lecturer sailed on a cruise ship around the Arabian Peninsula, the largest peninsula in the world with over three million square kilometres. He tried to capture the pulse of the port towns and hinterland, and to learn about the colourful and turbulent semi-transient history of this area, which Europeans have been experiencing for almost a millennium and a half. He has delved into themes related to tourism development and demographic and urban planning. The market economy, which has been based on oil and gas for only half a century in the South-West Asian region, has in many ways shaped and accelerated development, while the societies there have largely retained their traditional character.
