The Symphony of Koper returns to the Port of Koper at the end of June, a unique event that will reconnect the port, the city and culture through musical melodies. On Friday, the 30th of June, the seemingly incompatible will be brought together by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Simon Krečič and accompanied by the beautiful voice of Jadranka Juras.
The cooperation between the Municipality of Koper, the Port of Koper and the Friends of Music Association started already during the first Koper Symphony in 2019, when the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra took the crowds into the musical worlds of Aldo Kumar, Magnus Lindberg and Maurice Ravel. The excellent chemistry and enthusiasm of both the audience and the musicians led to the desire to continue the successful joint project.
On Friday, the 30th of June, at 8 pm, the passenger terminal of the Port of Koper will once again be transformed into a special cultural venue. Surrounded by containers and harbour cranes, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, which brings together the best local musicians and outstanding foreign instrumentalists, will play under the baton of conductor Simon Krečič. Over the past decades, the orchestra’s rich tradition has been showcased in the most prestigious concert halls and high-profile festivals around the world, and at the end of June we will welcome the orchestra in Koper. The orchestra’s outstanding playing will be complemented by the beautiful voice of Jadranka Juras, a well-known and active performer of both popular and classical music, mezzo-soprano.
The carefully conceived programme will take visitors on a journey through Europe like a river, and in Koper it will flow into the sea. The journey will open with Marjan Kozina’s symphonic poem Bela krajina (White Landscape), continue with folk songs by Uroš Krek and Slavonic dances by Antonin Dvořák, turn to a Roman rhapsody by Georg Enescu and end with Bedřich Smetana’s well-known Vltava (The Vltava).
Tickets for this unique experience, which will bring together business and culture under a starry sky and under the lifts of the port, right next to the city centre, will be available at Eventim sales points.
