MIŠJA PEČ
Mišja Peč is one of the most important climbing destinations in Europe, renowned for its overhanging walls and diverse climbing routes.
Mišja Peč, located near the village of Osp, is a premier climbing destination that attracts both professional and recreational climbers. It offers a diverse range of routes for all skill levels, with the impressive Osp wall rising above the village, providing a thrilling challenge for climbers. The favorable climate allows for year-round climbing, making Osp and Mišja Peč top choices for anyone looking to experience Slovenia’s climbing scene.
The village of Osp, one of the oldest in Slovenia, is an ideal destination for climbing and hiking enthusiasts. On the north-eastern side of the village is Mišja peč, also known as Mišja buža. A steep karst slope called Stena or Griža rises above the village, surrounding it and serving as its hallmark. Mišja Peć and the Osp wall are considered some of the most important climbing areas in Europe.
Mišja Peč is a stunning semicircular overhanging wall, 500 meters wide and over 200 meters high, created by the collapse of a former cave ceiling. Renowned for its challenging overhanging routes that require immense strength and endurance, Mišja Peč has also recently added easier routes, making it accessible to both professional and recreational climbers.
With routes of all difficulty levels, ranging from 4a to 9a+, climbers can choose between long, overhanging routes or shorter, technical climbs. Thanks to its favorable climate, climbing is possible almost all year round, except during the hottest summer days. Osp and Mišja Peč are known for their high-quality limestone, with routes well-equipped with bolts and anchors, ensuring safe climbing in both areas.
The Osp wall won’t disappoint hikers either, with its lush laurel forest, which is home to the extremely rare and protected Moehringia tommasinii plant. Part of the wall is also home to the endangered Eurasian Eagle Owl, whose hooting can often be heard on evening walks.
