PASJAK WATERFALLS
Discover the beautiful Pasjak waterfalls, hidden gems of Slovenian Istria, offering unforgettable pools and cascades in unspoiled nature.
The Pasjak Waterfalls are hidden gems of Slovenian Istria, nestled at the border between Slovenia and Croatia. Spread along the Pasjak Stream, these waterfalls offer impressive pools and cascades surrounded by unspoiled nature. Ranging in height from one to eight meters, they create a diverse and beautiful landscape.
The Pasjak Stream, which forms these waterfalls, is known for its stunning pools and trickling cascades. Access to the waterfalls is not physically demanding but requires extra attention from hikers due to poor signage in some areas. Some of the waterfalls can be reached by a well-maintained path, while the terrain is more overgrown in other sections. The path begins at the Church of St. Hieronymus and the ruins in the Dragonja River Valley, where the initially wide trail gradually narrows as it leads to the confluence of Dragonja and Pasjak.
The first and most popular waterfall is accessible after about 10-15 minute walk from the confluence. The second waterfall is even more impressive, with water cascading down a thick layer of tufa into an emerald pool, where swimming is possible in summer. Continuing up the ravine leads to additional waterfalls, but this part of the trail is less well-maintained and only suitable for experienced hikers who are not afraid of heights. The best time to visit the Pasjak Waterfalls is late autumn, winter or early spring, when heavy rainfall makes the stream most powerful.
