Veli Vir Waterfall, nestled among the ravines of the Istrian countryside, stands out as a distinctive natural feature, cascading about 8 meters high. It slides over a rocky threshold into a large emerald-green stream pool, so large that it resembles a small lake. Veli Vir Waterfall may dry up during summer or prolonged droughts, so visiting in spring or autumn is recommended for the best experience. The scenes in winter are particularly enchanting, as the waterfall transforms into a magical display of icy formations and cascading water.
Access and trail
The trail to the waterfall starts in the small, compact village of Sokoliči. The trail is easy, wooded, well-maintained and suitable for everyone. There is a marked parking area at the beginning of the village where you can park your car. Wooden signposts at the beginning and end of the village will direct you to the waterfall. These signs lead to a dirt track below the village, which winds through a pine forest and descends into the valley of the Veli Vir Stream. Just a 30-minute moderate walk will bring you to the waterfall.
