Titov trg(Tito Square) is an excellent starting point for discovering the sights of Koper. The depiction of the town’s patron saint, St. Nazarius, holding a model of the town, is the oldest representation of the former island town. It is on display in Koper Cathedral, located next to Titov trg. After five years of challenging conservation and restoration work, the Cathedral of Koper is once again showcasing its full splendour, including the priceless masterpiece by Venetian painter Vittore Carpaccio, Mary with the Child on the Throne and the Six Saints. When visiting Titov trg, you’ll also see the walls of Koper, which stretch 2,525 metres (or 1,457 Venetian steps), surpassing the length of the walls of Dubrovnik, which measure only 1,940 metres.
The 54-meter-high bell tower of Koper, also known as the town tower, stands in front of the cathedral and features distinctive Romanesque fortification architecture, making it visible from Titov trg. The bell tower houses the oldest working bell in SloveniaSt Nazarius bell, which was cast in Venice in the 14th century. Climb the 204 steps to the 43-meter-high viewing platform, where you can enjoy a stunning view of the entire Koper Bay, the lush countryside, and the surrounding area.
From Titov trg, you can stroll down Čevljarska ulica, the most picturesque and iconic street in Koper, which has retained the charm of a medieval merchant street.
All year round, Koper’s vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by its cafés, small shops, and dining establishments. You can learn more about the local providers and the fascinating stories they tell through our promotional campaign, Town Stories.
If you love museums and motorcycles, be sure to visit the Tomos History Museum. Tomos represents quality and timeless design, remaining a remarkable legacy of Slovenian Istria. Nature walks, vineyard visits, and exploring nearby villages offer a perfect escape from the town. The Koper countryside is also home to various castles, forts and other architectural and natural gems.
With plenty of options and short distances between locations, you can explore multiple attractions in a single day, including charming villages perfect for capturing stunning photographs and creating lasting memories.
For a visit to the vineyards, head to Brič, a scenic hilltop location nestled between the Slovenian-Croatian border and the Dragonja Landscape Park. The cypress grove with 669 trees, planted in 1960 in two offset rows to shield the vineyards from storms, is a fascinating sight to explore. You can also enjoy the sight of various trees, observe wildlife, and visit a refreshing drinking water spring. You will also come across an estate surrounded by vineyards. Guided tours of the Brič Winery are available, with tastings of fine wines (advance reservation required).
In the rural areas of Koper, numerous winegrowers and olive growers offer guided tastings.
