Karosi Júlia Quartet, “An evening of original jazz”

Júlia Karosi is considered one of Hungary’s leading jazz vocalists. Immediately after graduating from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 2010, she founded her own quartet. After only two years, she recorded her first album Stroller of the City Streets on Whereabouts Records in Japan, to excellent reviews. In 2014 she released her second album Hidden Roots on Dot Time Records in New York. In it, she recorded original compositions as well as a number of arrangements of Hungarian folk songs. Júlia Karosi has a classical education, which is also evident from her excellent singing technique and her repertoire and musical background. She composes original music and often arranges folk music and works by composers such as Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, George Gershwin or Stephen Sondheim. He always keeps his personal touch and stays in the jazz field. On her latest album Without Dimensions (released in October 2020 on Double Moon & Challenge Records), for example, Júlia Karosi and guitarist Ben Monder “reimagine” the works of Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály in a contemporary jazz version.
