Vojnović’s novel Yugoslavia, my country(2012), follows Vladan Borojević’s journey through the Balkans and his search for his father Nedeljko, a Serbian officer in the former Yugoslav People’s Army, now a war criminal on the run from the authorities, who abandoned little Vladan and his mother Duda in the early 1990s. An anguished journey in which Vladan has to face the traumas of his life, his fears and rediscover his identity. The memories of his childhood overlap the narrator’s present, and the confrontation between the two shows the literary figures in all their complexity.
