During your walk through the narrow streets of the city centre we recommend a tour of the old palaces, parks and the “street of artists”. Especially interesting are the Church of St Maurus and the 30 metre high bell tower, which are located at the highest point of the former island.

In the Simonov zaliv Archaeological Park, a cultural monument of national importance, you can see the remains of a Roman coastal villa and its port. From there, the path leads to the Belvedere Hotel, which is among other things one of the most breathtaking lookout points in the Slovenian Istria.

Even today, Izola proudly presents its fishing heritage to the visitors: through interesting outdoor sights (old boat workshop, Biser fishing boat, restored boat in the old dock) as well as through the museum called Izolana – House of the Sea, which depicts the city’s history and the history of fishing and the fish processing industry Izola was famous for.
