Franciscan Friary with St Anne’s Church

On Destradijev trg Square you can admire the Franciscan friary with St Anne’s Church.

The monastery building hidden behind a high wall was built at the beginning of the 16^th century and since then it has been frequently renovated.

The church erected between 1620–27 is located on the same spot as the 15/16^th century church dedicated to St Mary of the Angels.

The 15^th century friary (renovated in 1644) was also used as a prison in the second half of the 20^th century. Nowadays, the renovated friary once again serves its original purpose. The Social Centre of Primorska Središče Rotunda, student accommodation and an event space are also located on the premises of the friary.
