Šmarje

The parish church in Šmarje was constructed on top of the ruins of the old Pre-Romanesque building, probably as far back as the 11^th century.

Nowadays, the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and its bell tower are the most important architectural sites in Šmarje. The church was reconstructed in 1730 and redesigned in 1926. The interior of the church was also renovated in the 60s.
